Portrait of Sebastián Olano

I am an Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Toronto. Previously, I was a Postdoctoral Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan, and completed my Ph.D. under the direction of Mihnea Popa at Northwestern University.

My research lies in Algebraic Geometry, with an emphasis on complex geometry, Hodge theory, and singularity theory. I explore how Hodge-theoretic and birational methods can be used to study the geometry and topology of algebraic varieties, with a particular focus on how singularities influence these structures. My recent work often uses techniques from D-modules and, more broadly, mixed Hodge modules.
