This is a learning seminar on the topology of algebraic varieties.  We will cover Lefschetz theory, intersection homology, perverse sheaves, and applications to representation theory.

The Geometric Satake Correspondence

Given a complex reductive group G, the geometric Satake correspondence is an equivalence of the tensor categories of finite dimensional representations of G and constructible perverse sheaves on the affine Grassmannian of the Langlands dual of G. We will introduce the notions of the Langlands dual group, the affine Grassmannian and a tensor product of perverse sheaves on it. Our goal is then to use this correspondence to compute the multiplicity vector spaces in the direct sum decomposition of a tensor product of irreducible representations.
