-------------------------------------------------------------------- I-AIM Seminar on Biomathematics, Biostatisics, and Bioinformatcs 3:10 PM Friday November 19 in SS 5017A (100 St. George Street) COMPUTATIONAL APPROACHES FOR ANALYZING BIOLOGICAL PROBLEMS AT THE MOLECULAR AND CELLULAR LEVELS. Shoshana J. Wodak, Senior Scientist, Scientific Director, Centre for Computational Biology, Hospital for Sick Children I'll give a few examples, mostly from my own research, on how computational methods are used to investigate biological problems at the molecular and cellular levels. At the molecular level, I'll present our computational protein design procedures and their use for finding out how the requirement to form a specific 3D structure influences the amino acid sequence of a protein. At the cellular level, I'll show ways in which graphs and networks are exploited in order investigate functional relations between genes and proteins. Refreshments to follow in the adjacent Math Lounge. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
