Abstract: Prequantization of symplectic manifolds is a well known procedure and is associated with interesting geometric features. We show that the notion of prequantization extends in an analogous way to Poisson and, more generally, Dirac manifolds. Further we present a different, more general notion of prequantization and draw some comparisions to the one described above.
