Lunch spots:

Restaurant Address Cuisine Reservaton Needed? Comments
Anh Dao 383 Spadina Ave. Vietnamese soup & noodles Y A group favourite: very good food and close to the Department. Dishes, however, are more pricey than Pho Hung and opening hours are variable. CASH ONLY.
Elle m'a dit 35 Baldwin St. Alsatian, French Y Only possible when seminar is held on a Wednesday, as the restaurant is usually closed on Mondays. Although portions are small, the food is excellent, in particular the tarte flambée and the grilled fish sandwich.
E-Pan 369 Spadina Ave. Chinese Y Hearty yet inexpensive lunch specials.
Kon-nichi-wa 31 Baldwin St. Japanese / Sushi Y Excellent donburi (rice bowls) and satsumaage (gobo fish cakes).
Little India 255 Queen St. W. Indian buffet Y/N Longer to walk to, but balances out because we can eat right away. Good variety of buffet items, including dessert and fresh fruit. Slightly more expensive (~$15 / person).
Mother's Dumplings 421 Spadina Ave. Northern Chinese dumplings, soup Y Wide variety of steamed, boiled, pan-fried dumplings, and pancakes. Very good tomato & egg drop soup. NO CREDIT CARDS.
Pho Hung 350 Spadina Ave. Vietnamese soup & noodles Y Although the soups are (deservedly) the most popular items, the vermicelli salads and curries on rice are very good, too. CASH ONLY.
Real Thailand 350 Bloor St. W. Curries, pad thai, etc. Y Very decent food and extremely inexpensive lunch specials. Try to book for 12:00 or 12:15 to accommodate slightly longer walk.
Rol San 323 Spadina Ave. Cantonese, Szechuan; traditional dim sum and main dishes for sharing Y Very good cheung fun (rice rolls). As there are only 3 or 4 dumplings per basket, should order (2 x number of people present) or (3 x number of people present). They take debit but not credit.
Sammy's Student Exchange The Arbor Room in Hart House (on campus) Miscellaneous hot and cold (salads, sandwiches, wraps, rotisserie chicken, grilled fish; juices, tea, coffee) N Good option when time is limited for lunch: food is already prepared and payment is handled before sitting down. Consider getting rice with mushroom sauce as a side if you are having a hot meal.
