Calculus of Variations in
Physics, Geometry and Economics:
Fields Mini-symposium at Toronto, 11 December 2007

Travel Information

TO CMS: We imagine that many participants in the Tuesday Mini-Symposium will first go to the weekend's CMS meeting in London, Ontario. London is positioned midway between Toronto and Detroit, MI --- about 2 hours by car, train, bus, or shuttle from each, but more conveniently located to Toronto's airport (1.7 hours) than to Detroit's (2.5 hours).

FROM CMS TO TORONTO: Again, it's about 2 hours via car, train, bus. Trains leave about 6 times a day. For example, one could leave London at 8am and arrive at 10:15 in Toronto in time for the first talk at 10:30am.

MINI-SYMPOSIUM LOCATION: The conference sessions will be held at the University of Toronto Math Department, located in downtown Toronto at the corner of College and St. George and served by the Queen's Park and St. George subway stops. The building is marked BA in the lower left corner of the University of Toronto Campus Map.

DIRECTIONS: If you're arriving by train or bus you'll want to take a taxi. Cabbies will know where 40 St. George St. is, just 1 block east of Spadina and College. Ben has found that Toronto cab drivers are remarkably relaxed and helpful (compared to Boston cabbies). But if you want to be sure of your route, or if you want driving directions, click on the Google Map link at the end of the paragraph. In the ``directions from'' field type in ``bus station, toronto'', ``union station, toronto'', or your driving origin. Click here for Google Map.

TIPPING: Tipping in Canada is like in the U.S.: 15-20% on cab fares and restaurant bills.
