Oct 6: The notes on Derived Functors are now posted, and Chapter 1 has been
expanded to derive some basic properties of abelian categories.
In particular, details are given for the proof of the Proposition which now
has the number 1.3.13.
Note that in the case where the category has enough projectives (which is the
only case which interests us in this course), a proof in about three lines
can be given.
-
Oct 6: Old notes from MAT1301 (from a time when it was a full year
course with a different syllabus than now) have been posted.
-
Oct 17: Notes from MAT1100/1101 have been posted.
Our notes have been expanded to include the beginning of the section on
Spectral Sequences.
The hypotheses of the Kunneth Theorem have been corrected to state that the
splitting requires both B(C) AND B(D) to be projective (or else needs R to be
a PID).
-
Nov 1: The Spectral Sequences Notes have been slightly expanded in a few
places, for (hopefully) greater clarity.
The definition of "standard gradation" on an exact couple has been modified
to use the first gradation of the standard bigradation rather than the
total gradation.
The notes have been extended to include some of the examples of standard
spectral sequences which we are begining to discuss in class.
-
Nov 4: A typo has been fixed in the explanation of the term "projective cover".
Slight minor corrections were made in the notes and the proof of
"Homology Commutes with Direct Limits" has been copied from the MAT1301
notes into our notes.
-
Nov 6: In question 16 of the problem set, "finitely generated" has been
corrected to "finite type", meaning that each gradation is finitely generated.
-
Nov. 9:
According to the graduate school, there is no break in graduate classes next
week.
We hold our regular class this Monday (Nov. 12) at 11:00.
Monday Dec. 3 becomes a makeup for Thanksgiving Monday, and there is no
class on Wednesday Dec. 5 (although undergraduate classes at the St. George
Campus will be holding classes then to make up for holidays next week).
-
Nov. 17: The last two chapters of the notes have been posted
-
Nov. 20: A number of typos in the last two chapters have been corrected and
the notes reposted.
-
Nov. 25: More typos fixed, including several on Page 93.
-
Dec. 1: Typos fixed in the pages after 93.
