Day -1 - The Bike in The Box

"Being a bike in a box is a bit like being a bike outside of a box, only you're a bike, and you're in a box"

Hi, and welcome back to my bike blog.

I'm leaving in two more days, making today Day -1.

This blog post finally has some pictures of things I'd been mentioning in the last few posts. This blog post will be about the logistics of bringing a bike on an airplane.

Boxing The Bike

As per WestJet's bicycle policy, I will be putting my bike in a box

I got this box for free, along with plenty of advice from my local bike shop. It's a bit of a hand-me-down, but the gist of a bike box is mainly to appease the airline, and to force me to take the air out of my tires and disassemble my pedals.

While I was at it, I also uniformized my inner tube openings to Presta valves:

Something's not quite right... There's a bit of a gap there, where the inner tube can pinch. This is where this little boi comes in

All snug.

Shoutout to the best people over at Bikechain who also gave me advice, and helped me to all of the repairs on my bike. I also upgraded my panniers to bigger panniers. Can you tell which one's the bigger one in the following picture?

Finally, it was time to pack the bike into the box.

It fits!

The box was pretty run-down, and to be honest, I really hope that the airline doesn't ask too many questions. As is tradition, I took a picture with my bike.
