More Information

Before arriving in Toronto, I completed my doctorate at the University of Oxford, where I was a Commonwealth Scholar under the supervision of Nigel Hitchin. In Toronto, I am a member of Marco Gualtieri's research group. He and I have founded the Geometric Structures Laboratory at the Fields Institute.

I am attempting to pursue a deeper understanding of problems at the interface of algebraic geometry, differential geometry, and mathematical physics. Moduli spaces are central players in my research, whether they come from gauge theory or geometric invariant theory. I am interested in how the geometry of a moduli space changes under "variation of stability", and in how to compute invariants such as Betti numbers, using a combination of algebraic and analytic means.

Activities

In Autumn 2011, Marco Gualtieri and I organized a working seminar on my thesis. Here are the highlights.

From December 2011 to January 2013, I organized the Symplectic Seminar in Toronto. The seminar group meets on Mondays at 2 pm in BA6183.

I was a co-organizer of the UofT Geometry Retreat, which took place across four days in May 2012.

Over Summer 2012, Jonathan Fisher and I ran a "Quivers Session" in Toronto, which had a small group meeting to discuss Morse theory, hypertoric geometry, Higgs bundle moduli spaces, and moduli of representations of quivers. Graduate students and postdocs made up the bulk of attendance.

I co-organized a Master Class on Categorification of Some Methods of Geometric Invariant Theory. The class took place from March 25 to 28, 2013, with a grad student prep course held the week prior, from March 19 to 21.
