Information About Math 425

Our textbook is ``Partial Differential Equations: An Introduction'' by Walter Strauss. It should be on reserve in the math/physics library and on sale in the campus bookstore.

There is a web-page for the course, which will include the homework assignments at

http://www.math.upenn.edu/~mpugh/Teaching/PDEs/PDEs.html
Add it to your bookmarks. Homework and various tips will be posted here.

There will be two class e-mail lists. One will be a master list, with everyone's address on it. I will use it to communicate tips on the homework, clarify aspects of the lectures that were brought up in office hours, etc. The other list will be for student use, for you to communicate with each other (``Hey, does anyone have a clue how to do problem 8?''). I _will_ _not_ be on this mailing list and your being on the mailing list is consensual. If you do not want to be on the student mailing list, then you don't have to be.

There will be two midterm exams and one final exam. The midterm exams will be on Wednesday February 11 and Monday March 16. Note that the second midterm is the day after Spring Break is over, so be careful if buying any airplane tickets.

Homework will be assigned daily and due weekly. I will not accept late homework.

I will have office hours on Monday afternoons (1-2), Thursday mornings (10:30 - 11:30), or by appointment. My office is David Rittenhouse Lab 4C5. My phone number is 898-8472 and email is mpugh@math.upenn.edu

Please come to me if you have any problems with the homework, the amount of homework, the course, or anything else. The sooner we deal with any problems you might be having, the better.
