September 18 The Sidney Smith Math Aid Centre (SS1071) is now in operation. The hours are posted on the MAT135Y Website. These are special hours for MAT135Y and MAT133Y students.
Check out "Calculus: The Musical" .
September 30 The list of tutorials is now available.
The University Bookstore is now selling the "MAT135Y Term-Test Packages". There are 2 versions. One (with a yellow cover) contains the test and exam questions of this past year (2005-2006). The other (with a blue cover) contains the questions of the 3 years before that (2002-2003, 2003-2004, 2004-2005).
October 9 The first quiz is (in tutorial) this week. We are on schedule with the course material in class. This week I plan to finish sections 2.9 and 3.1.
October 16 Quiz 2, to be written this week, is on sections 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, and 2.5.
Any student with a time conflict the night of Term-test 1 (Tuesday, Nov. 7) should email Anthony Lam (lam@math.tornoto.edu). Your email should specify the exact reason for your conflict.
October 29 This coming week I will finish section 3.7 and go over solutions of last year's midterm. I also hope to cover sections 3.8 and 3.9. A good practice for the upcoming midterm is to solve the midterms from previous years. I will try to hold a review session for the midterm next weekend (details in class).
November 1 I will hold a review session for the midterm this Sunday, Nov 5, 11AM-1PM in the Math Department (in room BA6183). You cannot enter the Math Dept on the weekend so we shall meet at 11AM, at main entrance to the Bahen building (40 St. George Street), and I will let you into the Math Dept. Don't be late, otherwise there will be no one to let you in!
November 14 The MAT135Y Term-test 2 will be held on THURSDAY, December 7, from 6:10 p.m. to 7:55 p.m. (1 hour, 45 minutes test). If you have a time conflict that night, you should send an e-mail to Anthony Lam as soon as possible for special arrangements (lam@math.utoronto.ca). Your e-mail should include your name and student number and the exact reason of your conflict.
November 15 Have you ever questioned the way you learn? How do you know that your way of studying is effective? Have you tried experimenting with different learning strategies? A remarkable book about this, which I highly recommend you look at, is: What the Best College Teachers Do by Ken Bain (you can read an excerpt from the book online).
November 26 I would like to get a better sense of how you feel about this course and about yourself in this course. Please spend a little time thinking and answering the questions below. If you can, try to give me back this questioner by next Monday, Dec. 4.
December 4 I will hold a review session this Wednesday, 7-9PM, in Bahen 6183. (This is the same room in the math dept. we had the review last time.)
December 6 There will no class this Friday, Dec 8. Have a good break!
December 24 Personal recommendation for the break: watch Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth .
March 2 I will hold a review session for the the midterm this Saturday 5-7PM in Bahen 6183. Lets meet at the main entrance to the building (40 St. George Street) at 5pm. Don't be late since after we go up, there will be no one to let you into the math dept.
April 13 I will hold a review session for the the final exam on Tuesday, Apr 24, 4-6PM in Bahen 6183.
