2005 Toronto vs. Mississauga Match

The first annual Toronto-Mississauga interclub Scrabble® match will take place on Sunday, January 16th, 2005 at the home of Toronto Club Director John Chew. Players should arrive in time to play by 10:00 A.M., and be prepared to play an eight-round schedule with about an hour's break for lunch. Kibitzers are welcome, especially if they come bearing food.

Directions

9 Fulton Avenue is just east of Broadview Avenue. By public transit, take the subway to Broadview station and then either walk north (turn right as you leave the station) along Broadview for five minutes (four blocks) until you get to Fulton Avenue, or take any bus two stops to Browning Avenue and then walk the last block to Fulton Avenue.

By car, take the Don Valley Parkway to the Bloor/Bayview exit, Bayview north to Pottery Road (alternately, come down Bayview through Leaside and down to Pottery Road), go over the tracks, under the DVP and up the big hill to the light at Broadview Avenue and Pottery Road, where Pottery Road becomes Mortimer Avenue. Go straight on Mortimer for one very short block to Jackman Avenue, and turn right. Go two short blocks to Fulton Avenue, and turn right. 9 Fulton Avenue is toward the end of the block on the left. Parking is permitted on one side of Fulton Avenue (whichever side all the cars are parked on), and if you get to the end of the block without seeing an empty space (quite possible, even on a Sunday morning), there is plenty of parking on both sides of Broadview Avenue as signed.

Rules and Information for Players

We will play by regular NSA tournament rules, including the keeping of game scores (unlike at Toronto vs. Montreal where for historical reasons only wins and losses are recorded). However, spread will not be used to determine team victory: if both teams score the same number of wins, the event will be declared a tie.

John and Craig draw to see which side goes first in odd-numbered rounds, overriding the NSA's usual protocol. (Craig won, drawing AL to John's AS.)

Five dollars is collected from each player at the tournament, to cover the cost of the rating fee and light refreshments.
