Abstract: Many of the
fundamental manifolds arise as homogeneous spaces, but this class of
manifolds is rather limited.
We discuss various ways in which one can define more general classes of
manifolds, using Lie groups as a basic building block.
Such constructions give, among others, interesting examples of
manifolds with non-negative curvature.
