Textbook: Boundary Value Problems and Partial Di erential Equations. by David Powers.

Prerequisites: MAT102H5, 137Y5/138Y5/232H5, 242H5/258Y5

Syllabus and Homeworks. This is an introductory course to the theory of Partial Differential Equations. We will start with a quick review of ODEs, their Boundary Value Problems and Fourier series (Chapters 0 and 1). Then we will cover as much as possible from Chapters 2 to 6. Weekly homework assignments will be due on Tuesdays at the beginning of the lecture, starting September 15. The lowest homework grade will be dropped. Homework assignments and the topics covered in the lectures during the week will be posted on Thursdays on the course web page.

Evaluation. The term mark will be based on

  • homeworks (20%)
  • two midterm tests (20% each)
  • final examination (40%).

Tests. There will be two in-class midterms and a final exam. Textbooks, notes, or calculators are not allowed for these tests. There will be no make-up midterm tests or final, an undocumented absence will result in zero credit.

  • Midterm I: Thursday, October 8
  • Midterm II: Thursday, November 12
  • Final: TBA
