Graduate School Admissions Procedures


IMPORTANT:  There is a non-refundable $110.00 application fee.  Please read through the entire list of Admission Requirements before continuing.



Applications to the Department of Mathematics must be submitted to the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) using an online application which is housed on a secure server at the University of Toronto by January 15.

The online application allows applicants to manage and submit biographical and educational information as well as a Statement of Intent immediately to the University. Applicants can edit an in-progress application and check the status of all documents submitted using a secure password and Userid.

A valid email account is needed to complete the online application, as the University will correspond with applicants using e-mail.

Applications are considered complete and can be reviewed only after all documentation is received by the Department of Mathematics (this includes letters of reference submitted online by referees and official transcripts sent by mail). All documentation must be received at the Mathematics Department by the document deadline of January 22.

HOW TO APPLY:

  1. Log in to the online application at the link provided at the bottom of this page.
  2. Provide the biographical and education information requested.
  3. Be prepared to submit contact information for at least three referees. Be sure to inform your referees that you are doing this and that the University of Toronto, School of Graduate Studies will be contacting them by email.
  4. Submit your payment (online payment is preferred but mail-in payment is available).
  5. Submit your Statement of Intent on the online application.
  6. Arrange to submit Official Transcripts from each post-secondary institution that you have attended to

  7. Arrange for proof of English facility, if applicable, to be sent to the University of Toronto. Photocopies of official TOEFL score sheets are acceptable and should be mailed to the address above, or emailed to grad-info@math.toronto.edu.
  8. Be aware of the deadline dates for application and documents.

PLEASE NOTE: The University of Toronto will be closed December 21, 2009 and will reopen January 4, 2010. You may still prepare your application during that time as the graduate online application system will be available. Limited staff support will be available to answer questions about procedures; more detailed technical questions may be logged for response when the University reopens. Please ensure that you read all instructions and help text carefully. Staff will be available in the graduate office on January 4, 2009.
