A knotted box

A knotted box

A knotted box by Bob Mackay, on Spruce Street, Berkeley July 2002.

Visit this knot's page at the Knot Atlas.

According to Yuanan Diao (Minimal knotted polygons on the cubic lattice, Journal of Knot Theory and Its Ramifications 2-4 (1993) 413-425) the minimum length of a cubic lattice knot is 24. Mackay's box is a realization of this minimum, and better than the one in Brian Hayes's article and the one in Rob Scharein's web page, it has a 3-fold symmetry! (photo sent to me by the box's maker).
