MAT 1000 / 457 Essay Assignment

A short piece of mathematical exposition that should 
have both proof (or a computation) and text; a title
would be nice.

For example, 1-2 "Problems" or a proof from Stein & Shakarchi, 
a subsection from Lieb & Loss, a small topic from Folland,
or perhaps a theorem/example from Probability, PDE, Economics,
Theoretical CS, Mathematical Physics, Number Theory, or Geometry 
with some explanation would do nicely.  

Ideally, it would have some connection to Analysis; it should be 
interesting to you (try to make it interesting also to me).

Hard copy preferred (either typeset or handwritten)
Due date: Wednesday, November 6, in class or to Almut's mailbox.

Evaluation: 20 points = 2 homework sets
