Summer 2014 Master Class on Topological Recursion

August 18–22, 2014 The Fields Institute, University of Toronto

Speakers

Vincent Bouchard
University of Alberta
Brad Safnuk
Central Michigan University
Abstract:
In this series of lectures we aim to bring the audience to the forefront of research in Eynard-Orantin topological recursion – a recently developed tool that has appeared in a diverse array of fields, including combinatorics, matrix models, Gromov-Witten theory, string theory, knot theory and integrable systems. Starting from basic definitions and constructions we will explain the origins of the theory in matrix models and its close ties to string dualities. We will also go in detail through a rich array of illustrative examples, before discussing links to quantum curves and knot invariants.

Schedule

The table below details the schedule of the lectures. It has been crafted so that ample time is available for discussion during and after the talks. In the spirit of the Geometric Structures Laboratory we encourage the audience to ask questions and to engage in a meaningful dialogue with the speakers.

All lectures will be held in room 230 of the Fields Institute.

Master Class dinner

Participants in the Master Class are encouraged to come to dinner with the speakers on Thursday, August 21st at 8pm. We will go to the British pub The Queen and Beaver Public House.

If you plan on attending, please RSVP before Wednesday at 7pm with the form below so we can make reservations: enter your name, email address and the number of guests that will accompany you. If you have any dietary restrictions, have a look at the restaurant's menu online beforehand.

RSVPing for a past event doesn't make much sense,
so this form has been disabled.

Other information

While the Master Class is designed especially for graduate students and other young researchers who wish to have greater exposure to Topological Recursion, senior researchers will also benefit from the lectures. All are welcome to attend.

This Master Class is organized by Prof. Marco Gualtieri and Alberto Garcia-Raboso. Should you have any question, please contact them.
