Shin Nihongo no Kiso: Chapter 1 Grammar

日本語 English Notes
A は B です。 A is B. です is the copula "is". As in English, the copula is both irregular in its forms and very frequently used.

は (pronounced "wa") is the topic marker and identifies A as what you're describing as being B.

A は B では ありません。 A is not B. ではありません is the negative copula "is not".
A は B ですか。 Is A B? か is the interrogative particle. To turn a statement into a question, just add か at the end.
A も B です。 A too is B.

A is also B.

も is a particle that can replace any of は、が、を (topic, subject, object). It means 'in addition' or 'also'.
