The winner of the Halloween Costume contest was Stella Russell, dressed as a Scrabble bag lady. Second prize winner was John Vendetti, a dead ringer for Dustin Hoffman, dressed as "Dorothy". There was no third place prize, but Steve Moniz, dressed as a newsboy displaying a number of newspaper headlines hilariously reporting why players were defeated in tourney play, was in close contention for second place. Gordon Shapiro was notable for his impersonation of W.C. Fields, and overall, there were about a dozen very well done and entertaining costumes.

Results have been posted with stickers, by the directors, but are not up to date. From Richard Buck, who remembers fairly well what happened in the ninth of twelve rounds (three more are scheduled to begin at 10 EST, this morning) this is what it looks like:

A Division

Gordon Shapiro 7/2
Merril Kaitz 6.5/2.5
Joel Horn 6/3
Mike Wolfberg 5/4
Richard Buck 5/4
Ann Sanfedele
Irving Samuels
Bruce Adams
Verna Berg
Mark Berg
Joan Orvis
Nathan Terry

The order of those for whom there is no W/L is not necessarily indicitave of standings.

In the other four 12 player round robin divisions, the standings were not obtained. Your reporter, although winning only about one in three games, has high hopes of winning the prize for best Halloween word, SPOOKY. (Missed an even better one, having had an ER on the rack with SPOOK, to play to a Y on the board. (Didn't know SPOOKERY, that would have been a TWS bingo, for a sure H word win!) Having checke the dict, I now also know SPOOFERY.)

Lots of fun and games on Cape Cod this weekend, despite a wild gale last night! Sun is shining, and the temperature is mild this morning.

Wish we had more details, but can only apologize for the lack thereof.
